Friday, November 19th, 2010:
Dear IAA Alumni,
The IAA has made great strides since the beginning of this year, particularly in the last few weeks, and we could not be more excited to share our progress with you. Please read below for updates and comments from the different branches of the club.
UPMUNC 2010
Congratulations to Sachi Sobti, Geoffroy Bablon & the UPMUNC 2010 Secretariat and Staff for an incredibly well run Conference. Approximately 1,100 delegates from 90 different schools from around the world participated in 21 committees and 6 special events this past weekend. For more information please feel free to check out www.upmunc.org or the UPMUNC edition of the Ambassador which can be found at: http://www.penniaa.com/latestedition.php.
UPMUNC China 2011
New That's right, we did just say...UPMUNC China 2011! The IAA is proud to announce that for the first time in our 46 year history we will be hosting a Conference internationally. In March of 2011 the IAA plans to host a Conference for 300-400 Chinese college delegates in Beijing, China. We look forward to sending more updates your way in the coming months.
Publications
New Many of the exciting new developments this year have come from Peter Maa and his publications team. In the last newsletter we highlighted our new website - www.penniaa.com. We would like to add an Alumni section to this website, but for this, we need your help. Could you please send a short paragraph about yourself - reviewing you history in the IAA and what you have done since PENN - and a picture to secretary@penniaa.com as soon as possible?
The Publications team has also created a blogging journal 'The Consul' where IAA members are able to share their perspectives on what is going on in the world. 'The Consul' is published weekly. Please find the latest edition of 'The Consul' at http://www.penniaa.com/Consul.php.
InterCol
Congratulations to the InterCol team for winning Outstanding Large Delegation at 3 (Boston University, Yale, and Georgetown) of the 4 Conferences we attended this year! In order to better prepare delegates for Conferences InterCol began extensive training this year, including two semester-long training courses and Mock Conferences before each trip.
Community Service
New Community Service is one of the two newest branches of the club (Academic Affairs being the other) and is currently overseen by Drew Kramer who is also the Director of Special Events. Since the beginning of this year (in the past two months) we have already hosted a Conference for approximately 120 High School students on International Affairs (lead by Brittany Elliott and the rest of the PIRC team - www.pennirc.org), begun Model UN training classes at a West Philadelphia High School on a weekly basis and more.
Special Events
Following in the footsteps of previous years, the IAA has continued its tradition of knowing how to have a good time. This semester we have already hosted several special events including the Halloween Hayride and a trip to Eastern State Penitentiary. If you create an account on www.penniaa.com, you will be able to access the otherwise censored pictures (under Multimedia) from these events.
And much, much more!
We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress in the coming Alumni emails. ILMUNC is just around the corner, the planning for UPMUNC China 2011 is under way, the planning for WorldMUN 2011 is also under way (our destination is Turkey this year!) and so much more. So stay tuned.
We are where we are because of you, so we welcome any questions or comments. As always, feel free to email Catherine Gao at vicepresident@penniaa.com or Poorvi Kunzru at president@penniaa.com.
